What is the curriculum and the faculty like?

The curriculum consists of acquiring knowledge in science and technology and science journalism theory and methodology. Admitted students will take mandatory required courses such as Bio-technology, Nano-technology, Information Technology, Environments, science journalism theory. As well as elective courses such as future strategy planning, informative media industry theory, culture technology, Modern science technology and civilization, finance engineering and intellectual property. The masters thesis may be written with any KAIST faculty member.

What is the specific schedule and location and of the class?

The academic year is divided into three semesters, Spring, Summer, and Fall and the classes are held at both KAIST Daejeon Campus and Seoul Doguk campus. Classes will take place on the weekend and if necessary a 1 night 2 day workshop will also be held on a weekend.

How is this program different from journalism programs in other universities?

KAIST Science journalism is a masters degree program in journalism based on science and technology unlike other universities that focus on journalism theory and practice. It is a convergence program that combines expertise in science and technology with journalism theory and methodology. Admitted students will able to visit KAIST’s top laboratories and get exposed to new technology developments and after graduation will be able to work as science journalists, science promotion experts, future planning experts or media and cultural industry managers.

Will it be difficult to attend the graduate school while being employed?

As the classes will be held on the weekends, it will not affect work life on the weekdays. But, academic management (attendance, quiz, examinations, etc) are very thorough and students are to maintain a very high academic standing. More than 50% of the students have an attendance record of 100%.
